SuperShuttle Rally, Phoenix, AZ
Who out there is familiar with Veolia Transportation? There are the largest private sector operator of multiple modes of transit in North America, providing bus, rail, paratransit, shuttle, sedan, and taxi services. There are the owners of SuperShuttle. And since 2009 when the drivers voted to unionize, there has been conflict between Veolia and the SuperShuttle drives who finally formed their union in 2011. The drivers unionized as employees, and not franchisees won through a petition to the NLRB. When the union took effect in 2012, Veolia Transportation/SuperShuttle wanted to institute a new business model, one restricting drivers to working forty hours a week at an hourly wage of $11.50 an hour. According to Al Kogler, the CWA District 7 organizing coordinator who represents their union, the change would ultimately cut wages by almost 30 percent. Kogler said at first negotiations over this union change went well, until pay came up. "When we get to economics, the drivers very much wanted to keep their model," Kogler said. "the company refused to go that route which, in many cases, wouldn't give the drivers enough to put food on their families' tables." Tuesday, March 4, 2014, CWA members from throughout the country, including many from District 6, came out in solidarity in Phoenix, AZ with SuperShuttle drivers fighting for fair pay and to continue to operate under the exact same terms of their franshise agreements as existed before the union vote rather than lose what they had simply because they came together as a collective force. CWA presented over 2,000 signatures to Veolia Transportation showing that we want Veolia to end this conflict, and work with these drivers.

We must get the message out.'
